Collier County Heritage Trail
This progress stemmed from the Feasibility Study undertaken last year.
In September of 2008, Naples Cultural Landscape, along with Dr. Lois Bolin and Noah Standridge began a dialogue with the Rural Land Stewardship Committee and related property owners on how to safeguard our local history. This dialogue representes a historic moment: it is the first time in Collier County's history that local "heritage and culture" were asked to be considered in any decision making process. The intent was to ensure that the memories of the pioneers of Collier County had a voice along with our irreplaceable animals and environment.
When historic or cultural resources are identified within the RLSA through the SRA designation process, the applicant in conjunction with the Florida Division of State and Historic Resources will assess the historic or cultural significance and explore the educational and public awareness opportunities regarding significant resources.

May 8, 1923 the great county of Collier was birthed. At the 2009 Proclomation reading, founding families before 1923 and representative of the Collier families attened. Lavern Norris Gayor (far left), Co- Founder of Naples Backyard History, represented the City of Naples.
Interpretation of our local culture is important both economically and socially. It was made abundantly clear that our intention was never to intrude upon property right of citizens. It was made abundantly clear that our history must never be forgotten and that synchronized proactive steps need to happen to ensure that the true magic of the place we call home is never lost or worse - rewritten.
